APW - Hamilton, Grade 950B with rare gold case, 23J, 16S, heavy 14K gold OF original Hamilton Model 17 bar-over-crown case, "Hamilton 23 Jewels Railway Special" marked melamine DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, mono-metallic balance with Elinvar hairspring, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#S16994. Watch comes with a tan colored hard plastic flip-top Hamilton box. Gross weight of assembled watch 72.9 dwt (113.4 g). This Model 17 case in 14K gold version is rare as Hamilton's pricing of this style limited its sales to a small handful of wealthy customers. In Hamilton's 1958 catalog, the 14K gold version of the 950B in Model 17 case is illustrated at $375 while the gold-filled version of the 950B in Model 17 case is illustrated at $125. CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered micro-fine scratches; dial with some scattered fine surface splits; excellent but mismatched hands, hour and minute are black, seconds-hand is blue; case shows very little wear, some typical fine scratches, no dents or dings, case front and rear will thread on properly without issue when correctly aligned but require some touch to initially align properly, case band and bezel with handscratched s# correctly matching to last three digits of case rear s#; tight bow, crown shows very little wear; clean plastic crystal. Box in excellent condition showing hardly any wear, foil Hamilton seal is present, blue inserts are present, upper lid liner is present.
